     According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle: "A.D. 556. This year Cynric and Ceawlin fought....at Beranbury.1" Ceawlin ~ King of the West Saxons and Bretwala was born circa 547 at Kingdom of Wessex.2 He was the son of Cynric ~ King of the West Saxons. Ceawlin was crowned the King of the West Saxons. He was also called Bretwala, that is King of Kings in 560.2,1,3 In 577 he captured Gloucester and Bath from the Britons.3 According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle: "A.D. 591. This year there was a great slaughter of Britons at Wanborough; Ceawlin was driven from his kingdom.1" Ceawlin was deposed by his nephew Ceola. in 592.3 He died in 593 According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle: "A.D. 593. This year died Ceawli.2,1,3"
