Gravestone of George Bixby Lake
     George Bixby Lake was born on 7 November 1750 at Topsfield, Massachusetts.3,4,5,2,6,7,8,9 He was the son of Daniel Lake and Sarah Bixby.2

George Bixby Lake, age 22, married Sarah Lovejoy, age 18 , daughter of Deacon John Lovejoy and Sarah Pierce, on 13 November 1772 at Rindge, New Hampshire.1,10,11,12,8,13 On 1 June 1776 in Rindge, New Hampshire, George Bixby Lake signed a resolution which read:
In consequence of the above Resolution of the Hon. Continental Congress, and to show our determination in joining our American Brethren in defending the lives, liberties and property of the inhabitants of the United Colonies, we the subscribers do hereby solemnly engage and promise that we will to the utmost of our power at the risque of our lives and fortunes, with Arms oppose the Hostile proceedings of the British Fleets and Armies against the United American Colonies.8


Georgemoved to Woodstock, Vermont, in 1779 and spent the first season getting things ready for another year, then returned to his home in Rindge, N. H., where he spent the winter.14 George and Sarahmoved to Woodstock, Vermont, in 1780.8,14 His listed on the 1787 Tax List of Woodstock, Vermont as owing£28.14 George Bixby Lake died on 16 April 1816 at Woodstock, Vermont, at age 65.3,5,14 George's obituary reads:

He was universally esteemed for his suavity of manners, disinterested benevolence, and amiable deportment in all the walks of life. He was a worthy member of the Baptist Church, in the vicinity of his residence, for more than thirty years.14


He was buried at South Woodstock Methodist Burying Ground, South Woodstock, Vermont.3

Find-a-Grave gives his birthplace as Rindge, New Hampshire. This is in error, he was born in Topsfield, Massachusetts.3
