     Captain Joseph Sylvester was born on 12 April 1638 at Weymouth, Massachusetts.1

Captain Joseph Sylvester married Mary ______.1 From 1689 to 1690, he was the Deputy for Plymouth Colony.1 Captain Joseph Sylvester died in 1690 in the Canada Expedition along with most of the men from Scituate.1 In 1689, he was a Capitan under Col Church in the Eastern Expedition against the Indians. The next year, with 16 men from Scituate, he was in Philps' Canada Expedition.1 He died in 1690. His estate was probated. His will was verbal, and was proved in the Court by three of his soldiers. His wife, Mary, was appointed Executrix. The Town of Turner, Maine was a grant to the Sylvester family for his sevices in Canada.1
