     William Sherwin was born on 26 October 1787 at Ashfield, Massachusetts.1,2,3,4,5 He was the son of Deacon Nathaniel Sherwin and Mary Bement. He was a clock maker and mechanic. Clock Hollow in Buckland was named for his activities there.1,6,7,8,9 William Sherwin and Marcia Carter filed marriage intentions on 7 October 1809 at Buckland, Massachusetts.10

William Sherwin, age 22, married Marcia Carter, age 17 , daughter of Elias Carter and Abigail Bullard, on 28 December 1809 at Buckland, Massachusetts.11,7 He served as Town Clerk, Assessor, a Selectman, Overseer of the Poor, a Member of the School Committee and a Representative to the General Court from Buckland.1,6 William, appeared on the US Census of 1830 at Buckland, Massachusetts. The enumeration reads:

He, age 62 years, appeared as head of household on the census of 1850.13 According to the Federal Census in 1850, William was a jeweler.13

William Sherwin, age 65, married Eleanor G. Thompson, daughter of Benjamin B. Thompson and Mary ______, on 17 May 1853 at Boston, Massachusetts.4,8 William Sherwin, age 72 years, appeared as head of household on the census of 1860 at Buckland, Massachusetts.14 William was a jeweler in 1860.14

William Sherwin, age 73, married Wealth Parker, age 58 , daughter of James Parker and Lucretia ______, on 7 May 1861 at Buckland, Massachusetts.4 William Sherwin, 77 years, appeared as Head of Household on the Massachusetts State Census of 1865 at Shelburne, Massachusetts.15 He died on 19 May 1866 at Manhattan, New York City, at age 78 while on a visit to his son in New York City. His death was sudden.1,6,7,8,3,16,17 William's obituary of 21 May 1866, reads:

SHERWIN - Suddenly, in this city, on Saturday, May 19, while on a visit to his son, WILIAM SHERWIN, of Shelburne Falls, Mass., in the 79th year of his age.16


He was buried at Arms Cemetery, Shelburne, Massachusetts, in section L3.3 His estate was probated on 23 October 1866 at Franklin County, Massachusetts.18
