In 1708, he was taken captive by the Indians and taken to Canada. There he remained until 5 October 1712, when he was released. He arrived in Newbury 8 November 1712. Joseph was a cordwainer. They lived in Newton, N.H. After Elizabeth's death, on 27 April 1721 Joseph, at age 34, married Sarah Hoyt, in Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.
