ATHOL -- Gerald J. " Tommy" Chiasson, 83, of 27 Smith St., died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Athol, Nov. 23, 1927, the son of the late John and Josephine (Chiasson) Chiasson.
He has lived in Athol all of his life, attending Athol schools and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He worked at the Erving Paper Mill for many years until his retirement.
He was also a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Angelina M. (Boudreau) Chiasson; two daughters, Carol A. Dancause and her husband John of Lunenburg and Paula M. Benski and her husband Don of St. Louis, MO; a son, Douglas J. Chiasson and his wife Linda of Athol and a brother, John Chiasson and his wife Marilyn of Fitchburg. He also leaves four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six sisters, Lillian Robichaud, Rosemond Varoli, Hermance Laughton, Theresa Denney, Geraldine Baker and Joanne Chiasson and a brother, Sylvain Duguay.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, Dec. 15, at noon at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol (those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church).
There are no calling hours and burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Athol Area United Way, 545 Main St. , Athol, Mass. 01331. Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol is directing arrangements.
