In 1159, Duke Otto went on the Third Crusade with the Emperor, Frederick Barbarosa, as the Imperial Standard Bearer. He fought in the Italian Wars, was made Ambassador to Constantinople, and was present in Venice at the when the Pope and Emperor Frederick Barbarosa made peace in 1177.
In 1180, he was created the Duke of Bavaria after the fall of Henry the Lion. [1] |
