Rachel, age 10, appeared on the US Census of 1900 living at Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania,in the household of her parents, James Bruce and Rachel Anne Oakes.1 Rachel, age 19, appeared on the US Census of 1910 living at Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania,in the household of her parents, James Bruce and Rachel Anne Oakes. Her occupation is listed as a school teacher.4 According to the Federal Census in 1910, Rachel was a public school teacher.4 Sheappeared on the US Census of 1920 in the household of Alvin Ray Oakes at Mill Road, Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.5 As of 12 April 1923,her married name was Smith.6

Archie D. Smith, of Mifflinburg, and Miss Rachel Oakes, of near Watsontown, were united in marriage Thursday, April 12th, at the Reformed parsonage at Watsontown. The ring ceremony was used and was performed by the pastor, Rev. P. A. DeLong. Following the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Smith left on a honeymoon by automobile. Mr. Smith is engaged in business in Mifflinburg. His bride recently returned from Philadelphia, where she was in training for a nurse they will make their home in Mifflinburg. Their many friends join in extending best wishes.

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. Mrs. Rachel O. Smith, 92, of 1605 Ruie Road, formerly of Watsontown and Mifflinburg, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Briody Nursing Home, Lockport, N.Y.
A Northumbeland County native, she was born May 16, 1890, the daughter of the late James B. and Rachel Beard Oakes. She was married to Archie D. Smith, who survives.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Payne Avenue ( Christian Church, North Tonawanda and the Christian Women's Fellowship.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Jean S. Dolan of Spring Hill, Fla., Mrs. Mary Louise Burton and Miss Ruth Anna Smith, both of North Tonawanda, Mrs. Grace C. Scott of Lockport, N.Y., and Mrs. Dorothy R. Capatosto of Plano, Texas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the William F. Brooks Funeral Home, Turbotville, by the Rev. David B. Keller of St. John's United Church of Christ, McEwensville. Burial will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville. Friends will be received in the funeral home Saturday from noon until time of the service.
