James Travis was born between 1668 and 1676 at Brookfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony.3,4,2 He was the son of James Travis and Mercy Pierce.2
James Travis married Marcy Leland in 1698/99 at the Sherborn, Province of Massachusetts Bay.1,5,4 Jamesmoved to Framingham, Province of Massachusetts Bay, before 25 June 1700, the date of Framingham's incorporation, and settled in Salem End.2,4 Jamesmoved to Holliston, Massachusetts, in 1717.2,4 He signed a petition to the General Court from Framingham in 1727.6 Feb. 12, 1734, he deeds to his son James, Jr., for parental affection, land in Framingham, on Sudbury River, witnessed by his son Joseph ; and on Dec. 20, 1735, is recorded his deed to his beloved son Joseph, for parental affection, of land in Sherborn. In both of these deeds he is described as of Sherborn.4 Nov. 1, 1745,James deeded real estate to Elizabeth Weson, lying in New Sherborn, in anticipation of marriage, it being lot No. 46 in the division lands, and drawn by him in 1715. She signs the deeds later, and is referred to as "wife Elizabeth.4"
James Travis married Elizabeth Wesson on 1 November 1745 at the Hopkinton, Province of Massachusetts Bay.4,7 April 20, 1756, when he must have been full four- score years of age, if not more, he was adjudged to be incapable of caring for himself, and Mr. Thomas Mellen was appointed as his guardian.4 His estate was probated in 1756.4
