Stephen W. Carman was born in December 1822 at New York State.2
Stephen married first, Letty Ann Craft, the daughter of Willet and Sarah (Derby) Craft. She was born about 1821 in New York State, and died in August 1878 in Hempstead, Queens County, New York.3,1 He served in the Mexican-American war with Company A, the 10th Regiment US Volunteers.4 Stephen, age 27 years, appeared on the US Census of 1850 at Hempstead, Queens County, New York, with his first wife, Letty.3 Stephen, age 37 years, appeared on the US Census of 1860 at Hempstead, Queens County, New York, with his first wife, Letty.5 On 1 July 1863, Stephen registered for the Civil War draft, while living at Hempstead, Queens County, New York.6

Stephen W. Carman married Keziah E. Travis, daughter of William Travis and Eliza Maria Schoonmaker. They had no children together.1 Stephen, age 57 years, and Keziah Travis, age 32 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 at Wawarsing, Ulster County, New York.8 According to the Federal Census in June 1880, Stephen was a boatman.8 Stephen, age 77 years, and Keziah Travis, age 52 years, appeared on the US Census of 1900 at Wawarsing, Ulster County, New York, with her children.2 Stephen W. Carman died on 19 January 1905 at age 82.4 Stephen was buried at Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville, Ulster County, New York.4
