John A. Loew
     John A. Lowe was born in September 1858 at Port Perry, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.2,1,3,4 He was the son of John Baptist Loew and Catherine Fleckenstein.1 John A. Loweappeared on the US Census of 1860 in the household of John Baptist Loew and Catherine Fleckenstein at East Birmingham (merged with Pittsburgh), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.5 John A. Loweappeared on the US Census of 1870 in the household of John Baptist Loew and Catherine Fleckenstein at Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.6 John A. Loweappeared on the US Census of 1880 in the household of John Baptist Loew and Catherine Fleckenstein at Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.7 According to the Federal Census in 1880, John was a worker in a rail mill.7

John married first in 1885, Ann Christina Liebeck. She died in 1892.1,3 He and Catherine L. Boyle obtained a marriage license on 31 July 1895.8

John A. Lowe, age 36, married Catherine L. Boyle, age 33 , daughter of John Boyle and Alice Langan, on 1 August 1895 at Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.4,8 John, age 41 years, and Catherine, age 37 years, appeared on the US Census of 1900 on 911 Halket Street, Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.2 John was a hardware merchant in 1900.2 John, age 51 years, and Catherine, age 47 years, appeared on the US Census of 1910 at 735 Barker Avenue, Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.9 According to the Federal Census in 1910, John was a hardware merchant.9 John, age 61 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 on 725 Parker Avenue, Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.10 According to the Federal Census in 1920, John was a widower.10

John married third in 1922 Mary A. (Frederick) Selbert. She was born in 1876 and died in 1959.3 He died on 23 January 1925 at home on 735 Parker Avenue, Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, at age 66.11,3 John's obituary of 25 January 1925, reads:

JOHN A. LOEW

John A. Loew, president of the Braddock borough council and pioneer resident of Braddock, died Friday in his home, 735 Parker ave., Braddock. He was born In Port Perry, Pa., and came to Braddock with his parents, at which time his father, John B. Loew was supervisor of the construction of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad through the Braddock section.

Mr. Loew was educated in the Braddock schools and for a number of years was employed In the Edgar Thomson steel works at Braddock. He later entered the hardware business, from which he retired U! years ago, turning the store over to his sons.

He had always been active in civic affairs and was elected as a member of council In 1809. He served three terms and retired in 1908. He was re-elected In 1918 ana elected president In 1920. He was a chartered member of St. Joseph's church and Grand Knights of Braddock council No. 811, Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Braddock lodge. No. 883, B. P. O. E., Fraternal Order of Eagles, Loyal Order of Moose and the Maccabees.

In 1885 Mr. Loew married Christina Liebeck, who died seven years later. Four years following her death he married Mrs. Katherine Quinn, who died In 1918. Two years ago he married Mrs. Mary Selbert, of Slatington, Pa., who survives htm. He Is also survived by the following children: Albert G. Loew, of Braddock; Bertha H. and Alice X. Loew, at home; Michael J. Qulin, of Edgewood Mrs. John Mitchell, of Ligonier, and Mark V. Quinn, of Wilkinsburg. He Is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Joseph L. Mayer, of Swiss vale; Sirs. Joseph Rickey, of Pittsburgh, and Miss Kate Loew, of Gary, Ind.3


He was buried at All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in St. Joseph, sections A, B, C, and D.11
