Baranes V the Wild Ass ~ Shah of Iran was the son of Yazdegerd I ~ Shah of Iran and Sashandukht. He persecuted the Christians, which lead to war with Rome. Baranes V was defeated in 422, and granted the same toleration to Christians as Zoroastrians received in the Roman Empire.1 Baranes was crowned the Shah of Iran in 430.1 He is mentioned in The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam:
He died in 439.
