     Lewis Botzem was born in 1827 at Prussia, Germany.1,2,3 He immigrated in 1854 to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.4

Lewis Botzem married Margaret Anne Kistner, daughter of Willebald Kistner and Hellena Kitcherich. Lewis Botzem, age 33 years, appeared as head of household on the census of 1860 at Latrobe, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.5 According to the Federal Census in 1860, Lewis was a railroad watchman.5 Lewis registered for the draft in 1863 at Perry Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.2 He was drafted at Pottsville, Pennsyvania on 24 September 1863 into Company F, the 52ed Infantry as a private. He was imprizoned on 3 July 1864 at Fort Johnson, South Carolina.6,7 Lewis, age 43 years, and Margaret, age 34 years, appeared on the US Census of 1870 at Latrobe, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.1 According to the Federal Census in 1870, Lewis was a car inspector.1 Lewis wrote his will on 4 November 1874 at Latrobe, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.8 He died in November 1874.3 His estate was probated on 19 November 1874 at Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.8 He was buried at Saint Marys Cemetery, Latrobe, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.3
