     Demetrius I Soter the Preserver ~ Basileus of the Seleucid Empire was born in 186 BCE.1 He was the son of Seleucus IV Philopator ~ Basileus of the Seleucid Empire and Laodice IV. He was a hostage of Rome from about 187 to 163 BCE. He then escaped, returned to Syria where he overthrew his cousin, Antiochus V in 162 BCE.1 Demetrius was crowned the Basileus of the Seleucid Empire 162 BCE.1

Demetrius I Soter the Preserver ~ Basileus of the Seleucid Empire married Laodice V.1 He freed Babylonia in 160 BCE, and later fought against the Maccabbes.1 Demetrius was killed in battle in 150 BCE with Alexander Bales.1
