Xerxes I ~ Shahanshah of Persia was born in 521 BCE.1 He was the son of Darius I the Great ~ Shahanshah of Persia and Atossa. Xerxes was crowned the Shahanshah of Iran in 486 BCE.1
Xerxes I ~ Shahanshah of Persia married Amestris, daughter of Otones ~ Chief of Persia.1 In 485 BCE, he suppressed a revolt in Egypt. Continuing his father's attacks on Greece, he bridged the Hellispoint, and marched through Thrace, Macedoinia and Thessaly. Leonidas and the 300 Spartans checked for a time at Thermopylæ. He then marched south, and burnt Athens. In 479 BCE, both his army and fleet were beaten at Salamis.1 Xerxes I ~ Shahanshah of Persia died in 465 BCE.1
