     Leila Lorraine Jones was born on 12 March 1928 at Sherman, Antioch Township, Wexford County, Michigan.2,3,4,5,6,1 She was the daughter of Albert J. Jones and Jessie M. Gillett.1 Leila Lorraine Jonesappeared on the US Census of 1930 in the household of Albert J. Jones and Jessie M. Gillett at Coldwate, Branch Count, Michigan.7 Leila Lorraine Jonesappeared on the US Census of 1940 in the household of Albert J. Jones and Jessie M. Gillett at Butler, Branch Count, Michigan.8 She was a SSGT in the US Air Force.2

Leila Lorraine Jones, age 30, married John William Oakes Jr., age 40 , son of John Walker Oakes and Mary Gertrude Lotz, on 22 December 1958.1 Leila and Johnmoved to Albion, Calhoun County, Michigan, in 1984.9 Leila Lorraine Jones died on 4 May 1988 at the Albion Community Hospital, Albion, Calhoun County, Michigan, at age 60.9,2,4,5,6,1 She was buried on 9 May 1988 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, in section D, site 402.2,5 Leila's obituary of 11 May 1988, reads:

Leila Lorraine Oakes, 60. of 300 Maple Street, Eckford, died unexpectedly at Albion Community Hospital on Wednesday, May 4, 1968.

She was born March 12, 1928, in Antioch Township, Michigan, to Albert and Jessie (Gillett) Jones. She married John Oakes Sr. on December 22, 1958.

Most of her life was spent in the Homer area where she owned and operated L & M Lawn Service for five years.

Mrs. Oakes is survived by her husband, John Oakes Sr. of Homer; a daughter, Mrs. Roy C (Leila) Rino of Homer; two sons, John Oakes of Albion and Marvin Oakes of Homer; three step-daughters, Joan, Betty and Janet, all of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Leola of Warren, ML

Services were held on Saturday, May 7, 1988 at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels with the Reverend Dale Turner officiating. Burial was at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek.
