     James Travis was born on 29 February 1731/32 at Holliston, Province of Massachusetts Bay.2,3,4,1,5 He was the son of James Travis and Rebecca Squire.1 It appears by the records that both Jamesand Daniel Travis, brothers, the only sons of James, the son of James, were captured by Indians at Fort William Henry on 9 August 1757.3

James Travis married Phebe Covert, daughter of Isaac Covert and Mary Purdy, in 1758.6,7,8 James Travis died on 6 March 1784 at Cortlandt Manor, Westchester County, New York, at age 52.7,6 His will was proved on 10 March 1784 at New York City, New York.7
