     Lt. Caleb Cheney was born between 12 January 1738 and 1739 at Mendon, Massachusetts.1,2,3,4 He was the son of William Cheney and Joanna Thayer. Caleb is thought to have served in the French and Indian War.2

Lt. Caleb Cheney married Mary Wheelock, age 19 , daughter of Samuel Wheelock and Hannah Ammidown, on 9 March 1758 at Milford, Massachusetts.

Caleb was a highly respected man. He was the first town clerk of Milford after its incorporation and served on its first board of selectman.2,1 He was a lieutenant in charge of the Second Mendon Minute Company under Capt. William Jennison. On 19 July 1776, he was in Capt. Gershom Nelson's company. In the alarm of 8 December 1776, he marched as a sergeant in Lt. Seth Thayer's company to Providence, Rhode Island.2,1 Lt. Caleb Cheney died on 5 July 1800 at Milford, Massachusetts.2,1,5
