     Gaius Wheaton was born on 23 August 1788 at Leicester, Massachusetts.1,2,3 He was the son of Christopher Wheaton and Abigail Brewer. He was a blacksmith and the first of that trade to settle in Little Valley town. He was an active member of the Masonic Order and past master of his lodge.4

Gaius Wheaton married Relief Chase, daughter of David Chase, in 1819 at Little Valley, Cattaraugus Count, New York.
