     James Beard was born on 14 November 1791 at Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.1,2,3 He was the son of John Beard and Jane (?)2 He served in the War of 1812 under Captain William Fulkerson from 16 July 1812 to 14 November 1814. He was part of the Warrior Run Rifel Company, 123rd Regement, 2ed Brigade, 9th Division.2,3

James Beard married Nancy Moore. James, age 58 years, and Nancy, age 54 years, appeared on the US Census of 1850 at Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.1 James, age 68 years, and Nancy, age 64 years, appeared on the US Census of 1860 at McEwensville, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.4 James Beard died on 7 December 1869 at McEwensville, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, at age 78.2,3 He was buried at Warrior Run Church Cemetery, Delaware Run, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, in plot E-4L. James's epitaph reads:
