     Judge Samuel Purdy was born on 1 May 1685 at Rye, Connecticut.1,2 He was the son of Joseph Purdy and Elizabeth Ogden.1

Judge Samuel Purdy married Sarah Underhill.1 Samuel was the Town Supervisor between 1707 and 1755 at Rye, Westchester County, New York.2 He also served as the Justice of the Peace for Rye, Farmer of the Excise, school teacher, Town Clerk of Rye, Judge of the Common Pleas Court and Judge for the County of Westchester.2

Judge Samuel Purdy, age 23, married Clorinda Penelope Strang, daughter of Daniel Strang and Charlotte LeMaistre, on 19 April 1709 at Rye, Westchester County, New York.

On 15 June 1715, at a meeting held in Rye, Samuel Purdy, along with several others, was chosen to “... take care of the whole management of surveying the town s bounds oftheir lands to the best of their discretion.”.2 The Rev. Mr. Wetmore, in 1732, requested the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts to appoint him schoolmaster at Rye, recommending him as a gentleman very well respected in the town, a constant communicant in the church, a man of good abilities and sober exemplary life and conversation.3 Judge Samuel Purdy died on 4 March 1753 at White Plains, Westchester County, New York, at age 67 intestate.1,2,3 He was buried at Budd's Neck, Rye, Westchester County, New York.2 His estate was probated on 19 March 1753 at Westchester County, New York.2
