Henry I the Great ~ Duc de Burgundy

     Henry I the Great ~ Duc de Burgundy was born in 946.¹ He was the son of Hugh Magnus the White ~ Duke of France and Normandy and Hedwig of Saxony.¹ Henry I the Great ~ Duc de Burgundy was also known as Odo he only adopted "Henry" on being elected Duke of Burgundy.¹ He entered the church at a young age and was a cleric at the time of the death of his brother Otto, Duke of Burgundy, on 22 February 965. He was elected by the Burgundian counts to succeed his brother and they gave him the name Henry.¹

Henry I the Great ~ Duc de Burgundy married Gerberga, daughter of Lambert ~ Comte de Chaions, Viscomte de Dijon et Autun and Adelais, in 972. This marriage allowed Henry to rule the County of Nevers.¹

Henry married second Gersenda, daughter of William II of Gascony.¹ He died on 15 October 1002.¹
