     John Francis was born on 4 January 1650 at Cambridge, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Richard Francis and Alice ______.1 According to Judge Sewall's diary entry of 7 August 1674, he "had his right leg (both bones) broke, a little above the ankle, and his left thigh, about four inches below the joint, by a piece that fell on him" while helping build the New College". He was probably permanently lame after that as let out of service owing to lameness in 1676.2 John was a brickmaker.1

John Francis, age 38, married Lydia Cooper, age 25 , daughter of Deacon John Cooper and Anna Sparhawk, on 5 January 1687/88 at Cambridge, Massachusetts.
