John Gallagher was born circa 1842 at Choconut Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.1,2,3 He was the son of Michael Gallagher and Mary Degnan. John, age 8, appeared on the US Census of 1850 living at Choconut Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, Michael and Mary Gallagher.1 John, age 18, appeared on the US Census of 1860 in the household of his grand-parents, Michael and Ann Gallagher; Their son, Michael, and his family lived with them.2 According to the census in 1860, John was a laborer.2 He was admitted on 13 January 1886 to the Cherring County Poor House.3
