Theobald I ~ Comte de Briey, Bar-le-Duc, et Luxemburg was born circa 1160.1 He was the son of Renaud II , Count of Bar-le-Duc and Agnes of Blois. Theobald became, in 1170, the Comte de Briey.1

Theobald I ~ Comte de Briey, Bar-le-Duc, et Luxemburg married Ermensinde of Bar-sur-Saône, daughter of Gui ~ Comte de Bar-sur-Saône and Petronille de of Chacenay, in 1189.1,2 Theobald became, in 1191, the Compte de Bar-le-Duc.1 In 1196, he went on a crusade against the Albigensians.1 He died on 13 February 1214.1 He was buried at St. Michael.1
