     Phebe Adelaid Briggs was born on 13 January 1842 at Turner, Maine.1,2,3,4,5 She was the daughter of Hart Briggs and Susan Newhall. Phebe, age 8, appeared on the US Census of 1850 living at Turner, Maine,in the household of her parents, Hart and Susan Briggs.6 Phebe, age 18, appeared on the US Census of 1860 living at Turner, Maine,in the household of her parents, Hart and Susan Briggs. She worked as a domestic.7

Phebe married first on 16 November 1864, Loring Allen Copeland. He was born 26 January 1838 in Turner, Maine. He died 8 August 1865.

Phebe, age 28, appeared on the US Census of 1870 living at Turner, Maine,in the household of her parents, Hart and Susan Briggs. She was working in a she factory.10

Phebe Adelaid Briggs, age 28, married Alvin W. Woodman, age 30 , son of Deacon Greenleaf Hatch Woodman and Dorothy E. Dunham, on 15 November 1870 at Reading, Massachusetts.

As of 1874,her married name was Woodman.1 Phebe, age 37 years, and Alvin Woodman, age 39 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 at 91 Bates Street, Lewiston, Maine.9 Phebe and Alvinmoved to Brockton, Massachusetts, in 1889.2 Phebe wrote her will on 21 October 1890.12 Phebe and Alvinmoved to Connecticut in 1893.2 Phebe and Alvinmoved back to Brockton, Massachusetts, in 1896.2 Phebe, age 57 years, and Alvin, age 59 years, appeared on the US Census of 1900 on 52 Wilder Street, Brockton, Massachusetts.1 Phebe died on 9 January 1904 at home on 32 Wilder Street, Brockton, Massachusetts, at age 61 from cancer of the rectum.2,4,13,14,15 Phebe's obituary of 11 January 1904, reads:

The news of the death of Mrs. Phoebe A. Woodman of Brockton, formerly of Lewiston, reached here Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Woodman was the wife of Alvin Woodman, the agent. for the Lewiston •Machine Shop, who was boss mechanic at the Bates Mill a few years ago.

Mrs. Woodman had been ill for over a year and three weeks ago her husband was called to Brockton where he remained until the end. Death came Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Woodman resided in Lewiston for a number of years, moving from here to Brockton five of six years ago, She had many friends here. She leaves besides her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Allen and Miss Lora Copeland of Brockton; tour brothers, Charles H. of Auburn; 0. N. Briggs of Lewiston; J. K. Briggs of Barkerville, and T. T. Briggs, Reading, Mass. Also a sister, Mrs. S. M. Washburn of Greene.

The funeral will take place in Brockton Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The interment will be at that city, also, it is expected

Phebe was buried on 12 January 1904 at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton, Massachusetts, in section North Lot 40.2,4,13,15

Birth: Her birth record shows her birth date as 13 June 1842. Woodman (1995) gives it as 14 June 1842. I am using the date from her birth record; however, I urge caution as the birth record is a transcription.
