Gravestone of Deacon John Bement
     Deacon John Bement was born on 3 May 1734 at Northfield, Massachusetts.1,2 He was the son of John Bement and Mary Severance.

Deacon John Bement married Mary Wait, daughter of Nathan Wait and Hannah Billings, at Ashfield, Massachusetts.1 He served in the cmpaigns of 1756 and 1757 under Captain John Burke and Col. George Monroe. He was taken prisoner at the capture of Fort William Henry by the French and Indians 9 August 1757.1 John and Marymoved to Ashfield, Massachusetts, circa 1775. Ashfield was then a wilderness. He cleared land and carried his produce to market in Hadly on his back.1 Deacon John Bement died on 10 September 1810 at Ashfield, Massachusetts, at age 76.1,3 He was buried at Plain Cemetery, Ashfield, Massachusetts, in plot Y/06. John's epitaph reads:

The birth record from Northfield, Massachusetts gives the date as 3 May 1734. Given this informaiton, I conclude that he was born 3 May 1734 in Northfield, Massachusetts.
