Cornet Benjamin Whitney was born on 6 January 1678/79 at Framingham, Massachusetts Bay Colony.1,2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Jonathan Whitney and Lydia Jones.
Cornet Benjamin Whitney, age 22, married Mercy Travis, age 33 , daughter of James Travis and Mercy Pierce, on 24 October 1701 at Sherborn, Province of Massachusetts Bay. They had no children together.1,3,7,8,9,6
On 1712 in Sherborn, Province of Massachusetts Bay, he petitioned Governor Dudley for leave (permission) to form a cavalry company.1 He was styled a "Cornet" in the cavalry company of Sherborn.1 On 22 June 1717, Benjamin Whitney, in behalf of the heirs of James Travis, deceased, applied to the Committee for Brookfield, for a grant of land there, equivalent to the original grant, which was considered as forfeited. The request was granted; and, 17 November 1717, the Committee set off "to the heirs of James Travis, deceased, 60 a. near Brookfield saw mill.10" Cornet Benjamin Whitney died on 29 August 1718 at Sherborn, Province of Massachusetts Bay, at age 39.11,3,4 Benjamin was buried at Sherborn Center Cemetery, Sherborn, Massachusetts.4 His will was proved on 25 September 1718 at Sherborn, Province of Massachusetts Bay.1,12,6 His estate was inventoried on 21 October 1718 at Sherborn, Province of Massachusetts Bay, and was valued at £712 3/4.1,6
