     Joseph LaClair was born in 1800 at Montréal, Lower Canada, British North America.1,2,3 He immigrated before 1833 to the United States.3

Joseph LaClair married Mary Holt, age 23 , daughter of Jonathan Holt and Sarah Lake, on 11 August 1833 at Berlin, Vermont.3 Joseph, appeared on the US Census of 1840 at Berlin, Vermont. The enumeration reads:

He, age 60 years, appeared as head of household on the census of 1860 at Berlin, Vermont.5 According to the Federal Census in 1860, Joseph was a farmer.5 He, age 70 years, appeared as head of household on the census of 1870 at Berlin, Vermont.1 According to the Federal Census in 1870, Joseph was a farmer.1 He died on 12 April 1871 at Berlin, Vermont.2,6,3 He was buried at West Berlin Cemetery, West Berlin, Vermont.2

Compeller's Notes:
We do not know his parent's names, nor his exact birthdate. We do know he was born in Montréal. For the year 1800, the only Joseph born in Montréal was Joseph LeClerc, son of Jean-Baptiste LeClerc. He was born 7 April 1800. While I believe this is the birth record, further proof is needed.
