     John Travis was born on 11 September 1774 at Cortlandt, Westchester County, New York.2 He was the son of James Travis and Phebe Covert.1

John Travis, age 22, married Phebe Whitney, age 19 , daughter of Jeremiah Whitney and Eva Youngs, on 4 January 1797 at Yorktown, Westchester County, New York.2 John, appeared on the US Census of 1810 at Yorktown, Westchester County, New York. The enumeration reads:

He died on 5 February 1832 at Yorktown, Westchester County, New York, at age 57.2 He was buried at the Presbyterian Churchyard at Crompond, Yorktown, Westchester County, New York, Afterward his body was moved to a family cemetery on his farm.2 His estate was probated on 4 April 1832 at Westchester County, New York.6
