Jeremiah Whitney was born on 18 September 1731 at Ridgefield, Fairfield County, Connecticut.1,2,3,4 He was the son of Nathan Whitney and Sarah Platt. Jeremiah Whitney moved to Cortlandt, Westchester County, New York, with his parents, Nathan Whitney and Sarah Platt as early as 1747; Cortlandt is now Yorktown.2,4
Jeremiah Whitney married first wife.2,3 Jeremiah was Cutter (1912) records the following: He was a farmer, but his grandson, Isaac Lounsbury Whitney, says: "He was a Methodist preacher. I have been at his home a week at a time and went with him to church. He lived in a log house on Connecticut mountain; at that time I was six years of age."2,4
