Pierre Gaudet dit l'ainé was born circa 1652. He was the son of Denis Gaudet and Martine Gauthier.

Pierre Gaudet dit l'ainé married Anne Blanchard, daughter of Jean Blanchard and Radegonde Lambert, circa 1672. In the 1693 Census, Pierre was recorded living in Port-Royal, Acadia, New France. The family owned 3 guns and was living on 20 arpents of cultivable land with 10 cattle, 12 sheep, and 10 pigs.1 Pierre l'Ainé left the Port Royal river valley in 1696, leaving his farm to his eldest son, Bernard "le Vieux and settled in Beaubassin where he expanded the most vast marshland on the east coast of North America. He built his home on the hill beside the Tintamarre (today Tantramar) river.1
