William J. Dixson
     William John Dixon was born on 16 June 1868 at Port Perry, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.2,1,3 He was the son of James Hugh Dixon and Nancy Taggart.1 William, age 2, appeared on the US Census of 1870 living at North Versailles, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, James Hugh and Nancy Dixon.4 William, age 11, appeared on the US Census of 1880 living at Port Perry, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, James Hugh and Nancy Dixon.5

William John Dixon, age 23, married Hannah Frances Quinn, age 22 , daughter of Mark Quinn and Margaret Gorham, on 5 June 1892 at Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, They got their marriage license the same day as their wedding.

William, age 31 years, and Hannah Dixon, age 30 years, appeared on the US Census of 1900 at North Versailles, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.2 According to the Federal Census in 1900, William was a laborer.2 William, age 41 years, and Hannah, age 40 years, appeared on the US Census of 1910 on 26 Moody Street, Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.7 According to the Federal Census in June 1910, William was an assistant supervisor at a steel works.7 William, age 51 years, and Hannah Dixon, age 50 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 at 1111 Ivanhoe Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.8 According to the Federal Census in 1920, William worked in a brick yard.8 William died on 22 November 1925 at home on 810 Kirkpatrick Street, North Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, at age 57 from apoplexy.1,3 William's obituary of 23 November 1925, reads:

William Dixon, 57 years old. general superintendent of labor and transportation at the Edgar Thomson works 0 the Carnegie Steel Company, Braddock. died early yesterday in his residence. 810 Kirkpatrick avenue, North Braddock, after several months illness. Mr. Dixon was recognized as one of the leading satety experts in the iron and steel industry and his departments of the Edgar Thomson mills have held the world's record in the lowest per centage of accidents.

Mr. Dixon was born in Port Perry, a son of James and Nancy Dixon, pioneer settlers of the lower Monongahela valley. After finishing his common school education, he attended a high school in Pittsburgh from which he graduated when he was 16 years old, which was considered at that time record for graduation in any American high school.
ACTIVE CIVIC WORKER.

For several years Mr. Dixon was field superintendent for the Peoples Gas Company but for the last 25 years had been with the Edgar Thomson works and during the last 10 years he had assisted in the construction of the many large additions and new developments at that plant.

Mr. Dixon during his entire life was active in civic and political affairs of his community and for many years was a member of the borough council of Braddock and chairman and active director of practically every civic movement in the borough during the past 16 years. He was an officer of the Carnegie Steel Company Veterans Association, a member of St. Thomas' Catholic Church, and Braddock Lodge 883. Elks.

He leaves his widow Hannah Quinn Dixon, ani the following sons and daughters: James. Nell, Mary, William, Francis, Thomas and Florence Dixon, all of Braddock.
