     Mary Degnan was born circa 1824 at Cavan, County Cavan, Ireland.2,3 She was the daughter of Peter Degnan and Bridget Shields.1 Mary Degnan and Michael Gallagher immigrated before 1842 as their youngest child, John, was born about 1842 according to the 1850 census.2

Mary Degnan married Michael Gallagher, son of Michael Gallagher and Ann MacDermott. Her married name was Gallagher. Mary and Michael Gallagher, age 43 years, appeared on the US Census of 1850 at Choconut Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.2 Mary appeared on the US Census of 1860 living at Choconut Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania,in the household of her parents, Michael and Ann Gallagher; Their son, Michael, and his family lived with them.4 Mary Degnan died on 17 November 1886 at Choconut Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.1,5
