     John W. Brindle was born on 8 February 1798 at Unity Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of John George Brindle and Catherine Kuntz.

John W. Brindle, age 29, married Elizabeth Schmidt, age 27 , daughter of Joseph Schmidt, on 30 November 1827 at Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.2

John W. Brindle married Mary Hanlin, daughter of Dennis Hanlin and Margaret ______, in 1836. John W. Brindle, age 51 years, appeared as head of household on the census of 1850 at Unity Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.3 According to the Federal Census in 1850, John was a farmer.3 He, age 61 years, appeared as head of household on the census of 1860 at Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.4 According to the Federal Census in 1860, John was a pump maker.4 Heappeared on the US Census of 1870 in the household of Phillip Kuhns Brindle and Sophia Blank at Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.5 According to the Federal Census in 1870, John was a retired farmer.5 He died on 10 September 1871 at Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, at age 73.6

Compeller's Notes:
Marriages: There are several references to a first wife, named Mary Baker. This is very doubtful unless they were divorced, as her gravestone gives a death date of 19 May 1875. There appears to be two John Brindles. There is a John Brindle, born 31 December 1793, who married a Mary. He died 1 December 1871.
