     Mary Ellen Carroll was born in March 1855 at Ireland.1,2 She was the daughter of Owen Eugene Carroll and Ellen Walsh. Mary Ellen Carroll immigrated in 1871 to the United States In the 1900 and 1910 Census her immigration year is listed as 1872. In the 1920 it is listed as 1860 which is either her memory failing, or it was answered by her son by guessing.1,3 Sheappeared on the US Census of 1875 in the household of Ellen Walsh at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.4

Mary Ellen Carroll married Dennis J Hennessey, son of John Hennessey and Bridget ______, in 1879.1 Mary, age 24 years, and Dennis, age 29 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 at 106 Henry Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.5 Mary, age 36 years, appeared on the US Census of 1892 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.6 Mary, age 44 years, and Dennis, age 49 years, appeared on the US Census of 1900 at 156 Henry Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.1 Mary, age 49 years, appeared on the US Census of 1905 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.7 Mary, age 54 years, appeared on the US Census of 1910 at Pine Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.8 According to the census in 1910, Mary was a widow.8 Mary lived in 1912 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York, According to the Binghamton Directory she was living at 9 Pine Street, Binghamton, New York as a widow.9 Mary, age 64 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 at Pine Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.3 Mary's obituary of 16 March 1923, reads:

Mrs. Mary Hennessey

Mrs. Mary Hennessey, widow of Dennis J. Hennessey, died this morning at 1:25 o'clock at her home, 9 Pine street She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. A. F. Gallagher. Mrs. E. H. Kinssella and Miss Nellie Hennessey; two sons, John F. and J. Edward Hennessey, and a brother, James F. Carroll. She was a member of the Rosary society of St. Mary's church. The funeral announcement will be made later.10


She died on 16 March 1923 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.2,11,10 She was buried at Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Johnson City, Broome County, New York.2
