     Alfonso II , King of Aragon was born on 25 March 1157 at Villa Mayor del Valle, Huesca, Aragon, Spain.1 He was the son of Raymond Berenguer IV , Marquis and Count of Barcelona and Petronilla of Aragon 29 Jun 1136. Alfonso II's full titles were the King of Aragon; the Marquis and Count of Barcelona, Tortosa and Lerida; and the Count of Tarragona, Gerona and Cerdagne.1 Alfonso was crowned the King of Aragon in 1163.1 Alfonso became, in 1166, the Marquis of Provence.1

Alfonso II , King of Aragon, age 16, married Sancha of Castile , Princess of Castile and Léon, age 19 , daughter of Alfonso VII ~ King of Castile and Léon and Richilde of Poland ~ Queen of Castile and Léon, on 18 January 1174 at Zaragoza, Spain.1,2,3 Alfonso II , King of Aragon died on 25 April 1196 at Perpignan, Spain (now France), at age 39.1,2 He was buried at Royal Abbey of Santa Maria de Poble, Conca de Barberà, Spain.1
