The Empress Matilda
     The Empress Matilda a Princess of England was born on 7 February 1102 at London, England.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Henry I Beauclerc , King of England and Duke of Normandy and Matilda of Scotland , Queen of England. The Empress Matilda a Princess of England was also known as The Emperess Maud to the English speaking peoples.

The Empress Matilda a Princess of England, age 11, married Henry V Holy Roman Emperor on 7 January 1114.4,1,5,3,6,7 In 1126, Maud’s father, Henry I, had her declared heir presumptive. When he died in 1135, she went to Normandy to claim her inheritance. England, however, declared Stephen of Blois king. In 1139, Maud landed in England with 140 knights, and besieged Arundel Castle. A civil war ensued with Stephen being captured in February 1141 in Lincoln and imprisoned in Bristol. Eventually an agreement was reached where Stephen continued as King, but upon his death, Maud’s son, Henry would become King of England.

The Empress Matilda a Princess of England married Geoffrey V Plantagenet Count of Anjou, son of Fulk V le Jeune ~ King of Jerusalem, Count of Anjou and Ermenbourg of Maine, in 1130 at Le Mans, Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France.8,1,4,9,5,3,6,2 The Empress Matilda a Princess of England died on 10 September 1167 at Rouen, Seine-Maritime, Normandy, France, at age 65.1,4,3,6 She was buried at Bec Abbey, Le Bec-Hellouin, Normandy, France.3
