     Fernando II , King of Léon was born in 1137.1 He was the son of Alfonso VII ~ King of Castile and Léon and Richilde of Poland ~ Queen of Castile and Léon. Fernando was crowned the King of Léon, Galicia, and Extremandura in 1157. Fernando II was the first king to use the royal symbol of the lion in a truly heraldic form.1,2

Fernando II , King of Léon married Urraca , Princess of Portugal, daughter of Alfonso I Henriques , King of Portugal and Matilda of Savoy, in 1164.1,2 Fernando and Urraca were divorced in June 1175; After her divorce, Urraca became a nun.1

Fernando II , King of Léon married Teresa Fernandez de Traba, daughter of Fernando Perez de Traba and Sancha Gonzalez, in August 1179.1

Fernando II , King of Léon married Urraca Lopez de Haro, daughter of Lope Diaz de Haro , Lord of Vizcaya and Najera and Aldonza Ruiz, in May 1187.1 Fernando II , King of Léon died on 22 January 1188 at Benavente, Italy.1,2
