     Baldwin VI , Count of Hainaut and Latin Emperor of Constantinople was born in July 1171 at Valenciennes, France.1,2 He was the son of Baldwin V le Courageux , Count of Hainaut and Namur and Marguerite of Lorraine. Baldwin VI , Count of Hainaut and Latin Emperor of Constantinople was also known as Baldwin IX , Count of Flanders.1

Baldwin VI , Count of Hainaut and Latin Emperor of Constantinople, age 14, married Marie of Champagne , Empress of Constantinople, daughter of Henry I the Generous , Count of Champagne and Brie and Marie of France , Princess of France, on 6 June 1186.1,2,3 He was a leader in the Fourth Crusade from 1199 to 1204.2 Baldwin was crowned the Latin Emperor of Constantinople in 1204.1,2 He died on 11 June 1205 at age 33.1,2
