     Ferdinand I the Great ~ King of Castile and León was born between 1016 and 1018.1 He was the son of Sancho Garcia III the Great ~ King of Navarre, Count of Castile and Aragon and Munia Mayor. Ferdinand became, in 1029, the Count of Castile after his uncle's death.2

Ferdinand I the Great ~ King of Castile and León married Sancha of León, daughter of Alfonso V ~ King of Castile and León, Emperor of Spain and Elvira Meneddez, between November 1032 and December 1032.1 Ferdinand was crowned the King of Castile in 1035.1 Ferdinand was crowned the King of León in 1037.1,2 Ferdinand was crowned the Emperor of Spain. According to tradition, he was the first to have himself crowned Emperor of Spain in 1056, and his heirs carried on the tradition in 1056.2 He died on 27 December 1065 at León, León, Spain.2,1 He was buried at Basilica of San Isidoro, León, Castile and León, Spain.1
