Pharaoh Ptolemy IV Philopator was the son of Pharaoh Ptolemy III Euergates and Bernice II. Being a weak ruler, he was under the influence of court favorites. In 218 BCE, his army was defeated by Antiochus III of Syria, but he later beat Antiochus III decisively at the battle of Rafah in 212 BCE.1 Ptolemy was crowned the Pharaoh of Egypt in 221 BCE.1
Pharaoh Ptolemy IV Philopator married Arsinoe III, daughter of Pharaoh Ptolemy III Euergates and Bernice II. They were brother and sister.1 Pharaoh Ptolemy IV Philopator died in 205 BCE.1
