Edward Horace Whelpley was born on 1 September 1895 at Montpelier, Vermont.1,2,3,4,5
He was the son of Horace William Whelpley and Esther Agnes Matthews. Edward Horace Whelpley went by the nick-name of Ed. He appeared on the US Census of 1900 in the household of his mother, Esther Agnes and William Orton Gokey, his step-father.6 Edward Horace Whelpley appeared on the US Census of 1910 in the household of William Orton Gokey and Esther Agnes Gokey, his step-mother.7 In 1916 Edward lived at Northfield, Vermont.1
Edward Horace Whelpley, age 20, married Grace Evelen Seymour, age 22 , daughter of Francis Xavier Seymour and Ellen M. Hill, on 2 February 1916 at St. John's Church, Northfield, Vermont. They were married by the Rev. John A. Lynch.1,8,9
Edward and Grace's wedding announcement of 8 February 1916, reads:
A very pretty, wedding was solemnized in St. John's Wednesday morning at eight o'clock' when Miss Grace Evelyn Seymore and Edward Horace Whelpley were made man and wife by the Rev. Father Lynch. were attended by Miss Lillian Labershire of Herlihy of Northfield as best man. The Montpelier as brides-maid and Morris bride was attired in a traveling suit of blue, with a large white picture hat and carried a white prayer book. The brides maid wore white.
After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride at which the relatives and invited guests attended.
They were the recipients of many presents including cut glass, silver, china, linen and several pieces of gold.
The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Seymore of Northfield of the respected young ladies of thee town. The groom is the only son of Mrs. W. O. Gokey also of Northfield. He attended the public schools in town, until he went to Greenfield, Mass., where he is employed as a machinist.
Mr. and Mrs. Whelpley left on the noon train for their future home in Greenfield, where they are to go wishes to of house their keeping They have the best many friends for a happy married life.
Those in town to attend the wedding were: Mrs. Labershire and son, Mrs. Leslie Jewell Mrs. Frank, William Green of Montpelier and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hill of West Berlin.

Edward, age 21 years, appeared on the Connecticut Military Census of 1917 at 1435 West Broad Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut, giving his occupation as a cylinder grinder. He had a disfigured hand. .10
On 5 June 1917, Edward registered for the World War I draft, while living at 1435 West Broad Street, Stafford, Connecticut. Giving his age as 21; and his employer as the Locomobile Company of America.3
Grace Seymour appeared as Head of Household with Edward, his wife, on the United States Census of 1930 at 37 Jay Street, Boston, Massachusetts.11 According to the Federal Census in 1930, Edward was an automobile mechanic.11 Edward Whelpley appeared as Head of Household with Grace, his wife, on the United States Census of 1940 at 37 Jay Street, Boston, Massachusetts.12 According to the Federal Census in 1940, Edward was a mechanic.12 On in 1942, Edward registered for the World War II draft, while living at 37 Jay Street, Boston, Massachusetts. And giving his age as 46, and he was self-employed at Howard Garage, Inc. in Allston, Massachusetts.4
In 1942 Edward and Grace lived at 37 Jay Street, Boston, Massachusetts, according to the 1942 Boston, City Directory. Ed was listed as a President-Treasurer.13 Edward and Grace lived in 1946 on 37 Jay Street, Boston, Massachusetts, according to the 1943 Boston City Directory. Edward is listed as a garage manager.13 Edward, age 54 years, and Grace Whelpley, age 56 years, appeared on the US Census of 1950 at 220 Revere Street, Boston, Massachusetts.14 Edward was an auto mechanic in 1950.14 He died on 7 March 1964 at Brighton, Boston, Massachusetts, at age 68.2,15,16 Edward's obituary of 8 March 1964, reads:
