Herman Edward Whelpley
     Herman Edward Whelpley was born on 20 July 1921 at Washington, Vermont.1,2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Edward Horace Whelpley and Grace Evelen Seymour. Herman Edward Whelpley went by the nick-name of Paul. Herman appeared on the US Census of 1930 living at 37 Jay Street, Boston, Massachusetts,in the household of his parents, Grace Evelen and Edward Horace Seymour.7 Herman Edward Whelpley appeared on the US Census of 1940 in the household of his grand-parents, William Orton and Esther Agnes Gokey, on 37 Jay Street, Boston, Massachusetts.8 On on 16 February 1942, Herman registered for the World War II draft, while living at 37 Jay Street, Boston, Massachusetts. Giving his age as 20; and his employer as Beggs and Cobb.4 He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.9

Herman Edward Whelpley, age 22, married Grace Agnes Barry, age 19 , daughter of Leo Thomas Barry and Florence Catherine O'Brien, on 8 March 1944 at the Holy Mother of Consolation Church, Oregon, Dane County, Wisconsin.

Herman, age 28 years, and Grace Whelpley, age 25 years, appeared on the US Census of 1950 at Billerica, Massachusetts.12 Herman was a truck mechanic in 1950.12 In March 1964 Herman lived at Illinois at the time of his father, Edward Whelpley's death.11 In 1998, the year Herman died, he lived at Mabank, Kaufman County, Texas.5 He died on 20 November 1998 at Athens, Henderson County, Texas, at age 77.1,3,5,6,13,9 Herman was buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Denver County, Colorado, in Section 74, Site 202.3 Herman's obituary of 24 November 1998, reads:

GUN BARREL CITY Memorial services for H.E. "Paul" Whelpley, 77, Gun Barrel City, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jude Catholic Church, Gun Barrel City, with the Rev. Andrew Melel officiating under direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Mabank.

Mr. Whelpley died Nov. 20 in Athens.

He was born July 20, 1921, in Northfield, Vt., to the late Edward Horace and Evelyn Grace Seymore Whelpley. He formerly lived in Naperville, Ill., and was a resident of Gun Barrel City for 13 years. He was *a Catholic. He retired in 1985 from Research Products, Washington Bankand Trust in Naperville, Ill. He also was a member of Cedar Creek Country Club, where he served on the board of directors. He was an active member of the Gun Barrel City government and on board of directors of Western Golf Association and Lone Star Seniors Golf Association. He served in the Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Whelpley, Gun Barrel City; sons, Barry Whelpley, Mounds View, Minn., and Dr. Whelpley, Carrollton; daughter, Robin Patterson, Parker, Colo.: brothers, Howard Whelpley and Richard Whelpley, both of Athol, Mass., Lee Whelpley, California, and Rance Whelpley, Webster; sisters, Louise Whelpley, Boston, Mass., and Elaine Kolinski, Stoughton, Mass; and several other relatives.
