     Alfonso IX el Barboro was born on 15 August 1171 at Zamora, Castile and León, Spain.1 He was the son of Fernando II , King of Léon and Urraca , Princess of Portugal. Alfonso was crowned the King of Léon in 1188.1

Alfonso IX el Barboro, age 26, married Berengaria of Castile, daughter of Alfonso IX the Noble , King of Castile and Eleanor of England , Princess of England and Queen of Castile, in December 1197 at Valladolid, Kingdom of Castile.1,2,3 Alfonso IX el Barboro died on 24 September 1230 at Villanueva de Sigena, Kingdom of Aragon, at age 59.3,1,2
