     Harry Melvin Bankert was born on 3 August 1927 at McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.2,3,4,5,6,7 He was the son of Robert John Bankert and Bertha Marie Harding.2 Harry Melvin Bankertappeared on the US Census of 1940 in the household of Robert John Bankert and Bertha Marie Harding on at 908 Hober Street, McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.8 Harry registered for the draft giving his address as 908 Hober Avenue, his age as 18, and his employer as P. &. L. E. R. R. Company in 1944 at McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.3 He enlisted in the US Army on 8 November 1944 and was discharged 8 Juy 1947 at Fort Dix, New Jersey as a PFC.9,6

Harry married first on 7 June 1948 at Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Shirley M Carson, the daughter of Louis and Katherine (Geyer) Carson. She was born 12 August 1928 in McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, Pennsyvania.4 Harry, age 22 years, appeared on the US Census of 1950 on 223 Oregon Street, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Shirley, and his daughter, Katherine.10 According to the Federal Census in 1950, Harry was a truck driver for a dry cleaner.10 His Social Security Number was 187-20-4507 and was issued before 1951.7

Harry Melvin Bankert, age 35, married Jean Ruth Smith, age 23 , daughter of Sidney Henry Smith and Janice Mary Woodman, on 1 June 1963.1


Harry married third on 15 January 1971 at Winchester, Virginia, Mary Kathrin Bernard, the daughter of G. Burdette and Edith (Kelsey) Bernard. She had been married previously to ______ Marshall whom she had divorced. She was born 20 October 1945 in Pennsylvania.5

Harry married fourth Marge Grefenstette.11,2 He died on 1 May 1994 at Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania, at age 66.2,11,7 Harry's obituary of 2 May 1994, reads:

Harry M., 67, of Butler, formerly of McKees Rocks, on May 1, 1994; husband of Marge Grefenstette; father of Sherry, Kathy & Jennifer; brother of Clara Mae Mangis, Ann Hoover, Marilyn Farmer & Robert Banker! Friends received YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 137 W. Jefferson' Street, Butler. Services 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation 7-9 Monday, 2-4 and 7-8:30 p.m.11 He was cremated.12
