Sidney Henry Smith

     Sidney Henry Smith was born on 16 August 1917 at Lowell, Massachusetts.^3,4,5 He was the son of Donald Smith and Annie MacDougal.² Sidney Henry Smithappeared on the Census of 1920 in his late wife's parent's home the with his widowed father, Donald Smith, on 157 Meadowcraft Street, Lowell, Massachusetts.⁶ In 1930, he was recorded on the 1930 Census, age 12, in the household of his grandparents, James and Sarah MacDougal on 169 Meadowcroft Street, Lowell, Massachusetts.⁷

Sidney Henry Smith, age 21, married Janice Mary Woodman, age 19 , daughter of Harry Lincoln Woodman and Ruth Esther Ward, in February 1939 at Lowell, Massachusetts.^1,8,9 Sidney, age 22 years, and Janice, age 20 years , appeared on the US Census of 1940 on 7 Bagley Street, Lowell, Massachusetts.¹⁰ Sidney was a musician in 1940.¹⁰ Sidney registered for the draft giving his address as 7 Bagley Avenue, Lowell, Massachusetts, his age as 23, and his employer as the New American Hotel on 16 October 1940.⁵ 1944, Sidney joined the Star Lodge of the Masons.⁴ He died on 2 March 1947 at Cheney Street, Orange, Massachusetts, at age 29 by suicide in the living room of his' home by holding a single barrel 12-gauge shotgun against his face and manipulating the trigger with a part of a fishing rod.^2,3,4 He was buried at Tully Cemetery, Orange, Massachusetts.³
