     Orville Sherwin was born on 29 January 1816 at New York State.1,2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of William Sherwin and Marcia Carter.1

Orville Sherwin, age 23, married Phebe Fellows, age 25 , daughter of Deacon Solomon Fellows Jr. and Loe Rice, on 3 June 1839 at Leverett, Massachusetts.1,3,4,5,6,2,7 Orville, appeared on the US Census of 1840 at Buckland, Massachusetts. The enumeration reads:

Orville Sherwin, age 27, married Betsey M. Ware, daughter of Michael Ware and Hannah Kemp, on 26 December 1843 at Buckland, Massachusetts.1,3,4,5,6 Orville Sherwin, age 33 years, appeared as head of household on the census of 1850 at Buckland, Massachusetts.9 According to the Federal Census in 1850, Orville was a farmer.9 He, 38 years, appeared as Head of Household on the Massachusetts State Census of 1855 at Buckland, Massachusetts.10 He, age 43 years, appeared as head of household on the census of 1860 at Sugar Grove, Kane County, Illinois.11 According to the Federal Census in 1860, Orville was a farmer.11 Orville, age 48 years, and Betsey, age 51 years , appeared on the Massachusetts State Census of 1865 at Shelburne, Massachusetts.12

Orville Sherwin, age 53, married Jennie Deborah Legg on 22 July 1869.1,2,4,5,6 Orville, age 53 years, and Jennie appeared on the US Census of 1870 at Lyons, Cook County, Illinois.13 According to the Federal Census in 1870, Orville was a laborer.13 Heappeared on the US Census of 1880 in the household of Sidney Orville Sherwin and Mary Adelaide Shedd at Waseca, Waseca County, Minnesota.14 Orville was a laborer in 1880.14 He died on 11 November 1898 at Stockton, Cedar County, Missouri, at age 82.1,2,5 Orville's obituary of 1898, reads:

Orville Sherwin died at the residence of his son, S.O. Sherwin, last Sat. morning. He was born in 1814 in New York and was 84 years old at the time of his death.2 He was buried at Gum Springs Cemetery, Stockton, Cedar County, Missouri.2

Compeller's Notes:
Birth: White (1900)and Kendrick (1937) gives his birth place as New York State based on the 1855 Massachusetts State Census. The other census' give New York as well. Yet, his birth is entered for Buckland, Massachusetts in their vital records. Clearly he believed himself to have been born in New York. The riginal Buckland records were lost in the fire of 1876, and reconstructed. Hence the error.1,4,10
