Anna Elizabeth Donovan

     Anna Elizabeth Donovan was born on 3 October 1854 at Broome County, New York.^1,2 She was the daughter of Malachy Donovan and Honora Murphy. Anna, age 11, appeared on the US Census of 1865 living at Maine, Broome County, New York,in the household of her parents, Malachy and Honora Donovan.³ Anna, age 15 years, appeared on the US Census of 1870 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York. She was a domestic servant with the St. John family.⁴

Anna Elizabeth Donovan married Francis Gallagher, son of Michael Gallagher and Mary Degnan, in 1873.¹ As of 1873,her married name was Gallagher. Anna, age 20 years, and Francis, age 29 years , appeared on the New York State Census of 1875 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.⁵ Anna, age 25 years, and Frank, age 34 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 on 145 Oak Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.⁶ Anna, age 45 years, and Frank, age 54 years, appeared on the US Census of 1900 on 235 Oak Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.¹ Anna, age 50 years, and Francis, age 59 years , appeared on the New York State Census of 1905 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.⁷ Anna, age 55 years, and Frank, age 64 years, appeared on the US Census of 1910 on 235 Oak Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.⁸ Anna, age 60 years, and Bridget, sisters, appeared on the New York State Census of 1915 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.⁹ According to the Binghamton, New York, City Directory, 1917, she lived in Binghamton, Broome County, New York, in 1917 . She was listed as a widow.¹⁰ Anna, age 65 years, and her sister, Bridget, age 70 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 on 235 Oak Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York, Bridget was a widow.¹¹ Anna, age 70 years, appeared on the US Census of 1925 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.¹² Anna, age 75 years, appeared on the US Census of 1930 on 37 Chestnut Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York. She was a widow.¹³ Anna, age 85 years, appeared on the US Census of 1940 on 37 Chestnut Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.¹⁴ Anna died on 25 March 1943 at home on Binghamton, Broome County, New York, at age 88 after a lingering illness.^2,15 Anna's obituary of 26 March 1943, reads:
