     Aloysius Francis Gallagher was born on 1 June 1884 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.1,2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Francis Gallagher and Anna Elizabeth Donovan. Aloysius Francis Gallagherappeared on the US Census of 1900 in the household of Frank Gallagher and Anna Elizabeth Donovan at 235 Oak Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.1 According to the census in 1900, Aloysius was a grocery clerk.1 Heappeared on the US Census of 1905 in the household of Francis Gallagher and Anna Elizabeth Donovan at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.7 Aloysius Francis Gallagherappeared on the US Census of 1910 in the household of Frank Gallagher and Anna Elizabeth Gallagher at 235 Oak Street, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.8 According to the census in 1910, Aloysius was the manager of an ice store.8 He and Elizabeth Irene Hennessey obtained a marriage license on 13 May 1913 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.9

Aloysius Francis Gallagher, age 28, married Elizabeth Irene Hennessey, age 28 , daughter of Dennis J Hennessey and Mary Ellen Carroll, on 14 May 1913.4 Aloysius registered for the draft giving his age as 34, his address as 15 Latrop Avenue, Binghamton, New York, and his employer as the A & T. Tea Company. on 10 September 1918 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.5 Aloysius, age 35 years, and Elizabeth, age 35 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 at 15 Lathrop Avenue, Binghamton, Broome County, New York.10 According to the census in 1920, Aloysius was the general superintendent of a tea store.10 Aloysius, age 45 years, and Elizabeth, age 45 years, appeared on the US Census of 1930 at 937 Grandview Street, Scranton, Pennsylvania.11 According to the census in 1930, Aloysius was a superintendent of a chain store.11 Aloysius, age 55 years, and Elizabeth, age 55 years, appeared on the US Census of 1940 at Haverford, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.12,13 According to the census in 1940, Aloysius was a unit head.12 In 1942 he became the director of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company.14 Aloysius and Elizabeth lived in 1942 at Scranton, Pennsylvania.15 Aloysius registered for the draft giving his age as 57, his address as 4507 Marvine Avenue, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, and his employer as the A&P Tea Company.6 Aloysius lived in 1970 at Drexel Hill, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, the year he died.3 He died on 27 January 1970 at Drexel Hill, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, at age 85.2,3,4 Aloysius's obituary of 29 January 1970, reads:

Aloysius F. Gallagher. 85, first vice president of Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., North-Eastern Pennsylvania, from 1925 to 1966, died Tuesday in his home in Drexel after an illness. His wife, the former Elizabeth Hennesay, died in 1966

Born in Binginham, son of the late Francis and Anna Donovan Gallagher, he took hit first job with AP in 1901. He later transferred to Scranton in 1922 as general superintendent. He became f i rat vice president in 1925 and in 1930 was placed in charge of operations in the Philadelphia area.

In 1938 he returned to Scranton, remaining here until his retirement in 1950 At that time ha was overseeing 232 food stores in Northeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New York State.

A retirement party was given in Hotel Casey, Scranton, attended by more than 600 official and employees, honoring his career of 48 years with the A&P chain.

Mr. Gallagher was Interested in community affairs and participated in Community Chest and Chamber of Commerce activities and was a member of the Better Business Bureau. He was president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in 1945, was a member of Binghamton Council, Knights of Columbus, and St. Dorothy's Roman Catholic Church, Drexel Hill.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph and Paul, Philadelphia; two daughters, Mrs. William Kane, Franklin Lakes, N.J; Mm. Edmund Sullivan, Drexel Hill; a brother, Patrick, Sewell, N.J; two foster daughters, Mrs. Margaret Becker, Scranton; Mrs. David Porter, Norfolk, Va; 28 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday from Victor J. Ruffenach Funeral Home, Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, with mass at 10 a.m. in St. Dorothy's Church. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohoaken. Friends may call Friday 7 to 9.2


He was buried on 31 January 1970 at Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.2
